Family history from £50
We believe genealogy should be affordable because everyone deserves the opportunity to connect with their roots, uncover their family’s history, and preserve it for future generations. Understanding where we come from helps us better appreciate who we are, and this valuable experience shouldn’t be out of reach due to cost.
Services
Basic Package (£80)
This package will trace the history of one surname back to the start of the 19th century or before. Commentary and insight will be provided as part of this.
You will receive:
- Chart showing history of surname as far and as accurately as records allow
- Commentary summary to accompany chart
Standard Package (£150)
This package offers the creation of a family tree for both parental lines. This will typically will go back to the start of the 19th century or beyond, where records allow. Commentary and insight will be provided as part of this.
You will receive:
- Chart showing family tree as far back and as accurately as records allow
- Commentary to explain and analyse the findings
- Recommendations for next steps and any further research you may wish to undertake
The process: Step by Step
1) Enquiry
We will use this stage to gain a summary understanding of your needs and gather some initial data. If you are happy to proceed after this feasibility stage, we will charge 50% of the overall fixed fee.
2) Research Begins
This stage will take what we have discussed and apply to a desk based assessment. This will usually take about 1-2 weeks overall and you will be provided with regular updates throughout. The HIA may also reach out to you if there are any further questions and you may likewise do the same if you wish to.
3) Delivery
Delivery is optimised for 1-2 weeks following commission. You will be emailed our findings as a PDF or JPEG, as well as the sources that we used to conduct our assessment. You may then have questions which will be answered free of charge for one week after receipt of your information. After this, any further work will be charged at an hourly rate of £25.00.
Consultancy (£25 hourly)
If there are any other matters you would like to discuss, for example DNA test results, your own research etc, this package offers a general consultancy service at a fixed hourly rate.

Edward chose to pursue a career in history, starting following graduation with a degree in medieval and early modern history. Following this, Edward completed a MSc in Historic Conservation. Ancestry has always been a much loved tributary of his interests and something he wanted one day to make a profession. Edward also wanted ancestry to be an affordable commodity and that’s why our packages start at just £50, making family history accessible to all.
